Other coastal protections:)

There are also other types of coastal protection in hard engineering like breakwaters, groynes and gabions. The coastlines are protected by reducing the effect of the waves on the coast. It is prevented by strengthening the coastlines and prevent coastal erosion from happening easily. 

More about the coastal protection: Seawalls~

The coastal protection at labrador park is an example of hard engineering which is building seawalls. The seawalls is built along the coast. It is usually made of concrete which absorbs energy from the waves and protects the coast from strong waves. 
Limitations: 
But the seawall is not very long lasting. The waves which break against the seawall would be redirected to the base of the seawall which results in a strong backwash. Eventually, the base of the seawall would weaken and collapse. Thus, it is not a long lasting method and it is also very expensive to built the seawalls.

Labrador Park Outing!

The outing was fun, full of laughter! :) But. There was just one tiny problem. We didn't know where Labrador Park was! So we walked around and around, just looking for Labrador Park. I am very sure we walked an extra 5km just looking for it. -.- Like seriously. I am not kidding. It was so tiring after we finished the outing! My legs are so jelly right now. T_T Anyways, I'm gonna post pictures that we took at Labrador Park in this blog! :) LOL enjoy! :B

Okay, so Labrador Park looks a bit like this. :) I found this picture on the internet. But we can't just take pictures from the internet and upload in this blog. We have to really take pictures of ourselves as a team at Labrador Park. I guess this is just a random picture? :D

Labrador Nature & Coastal Walk 
Located within the walking distance of Labrador Park MRT Station, the newly launched Labrador Nature & Coastal Walk comprises three distinct segments - Alexandra Garden Trail, Berlayer Creek mangrove trail, and Bukit Chermin Boardwalk. The Alexandra Garden Trail runs along Alexandra Road from Depot Road to Telok Blangah Road, through the Berlayer Creek mangrove area and skirts the foothills of Bukit Chermin. Currently one of two remaining mangroves in the south of mainland Singapore, Berlayer Creek is home to a myraid of fauna and flora - some 60 bird species, 19 fish species and 14 true mangrove plant species have been recorded here. Take a walk along the coastal foothill of Bukit Chermin on the Bukit Chermin Boardwalk. It is an elevated boardwalk which connects the Berlayer Creek mangrove trail and the Labrador Nature Reserve to the promenade at the Reflections at Keppel Bay.


But it seems like a really long walk to our answers right? O.O I think our legs are really gonna hurt tomorrow... T_T

Objectives for the Geography Outing Tomorrow

We have to do coastal studies at Labrador park tomorrow. Our objectives are to:
-Identify at least 3 coastal protection schemes found in Singapore.
-Make visits to the sites and discover how the coastlines are protected.
-Explain how each coastal protection measure prevents coastal erosion.
-Explain the limitations of each measure.
-Include photographs and videos as evidence.
-Present our findings in our personalized blogs.

Geography Project Outing Tomorrow! :D

All of us would be going to Labrador Park together as a team tomorrow to carry out our project work! :) I am thinking that it might be fun, even though we are going there to do our project! ^.^
